Northern English Springer Spaniel Rescue
Fun Weekend 2011.
I’m currently going into my third year at Newcastle University studying Combined Honours in Geography and Sociology, sometimes I feel like it’s the best option going to university, but then there are times when you’re sat in a lecture and their reading off a PowerPoint and you think to yourself, ‘how much am I paying for this again?’.

I started Raven River Agility about a year ago from nothing and I never advertised, yet would you believe, here I am, with 3 brilliant classes and approximately 35dogs. Its run by myself, Rebecca and Jamie Earle. It’s unfortunate that I couldn’t put more time into it, but now with the penultimate university year coming up I can’t afford to do anymore hours as such.

I love teaching people and their dogs, and we have such a diverse range, which is brilliant, Spaniels, Collies, German Shepherds, Pugs, Terriers and its great experience to see how each breed copes differently with each training situation. I have always preached that it’s for people just wanting to have fun, and I think that’s why people relax and enjoy it, there’s no pressure. Yes we may not have the next world champion in our midst (or at least not yet) and some of our dogs work on lead, but so what?
There are so many people claiming to be the next big thing in dog training and all you have to do is search for something on the internet and you find so many opinions, ‘don’t do this, you shouldn’t do that, teach like this’. It’s not to say that I don’t read such articles, papers and books, but I tend not to take them as if they are the word of God, if I find something that sounds good, or it sounds like it might help with my dogs then I write it down and give it a go.

I, however still get up at stupid ‘o’clock in the morning and stand in ridiculous weather for several hours in the hope that I don't mess up and my dog get's a clear round, but, I wouldn't have it any other way.
